The Commanding Officer Arrives

* SD 23.0111.2004 (EST)
* Scene USS COCHRANE

Captain Pol Canon exhaled sharply as the rematerialization process concluded. *All still there,* he thought to himself. Since leaving Starfleet, he had made a point of avoiding transporters – not out of fear but for health reasons. Pol would walk where ever he could, and when not possible, he would take an open air transport. He had come to realize the inherent beauty of the universe and saw no reason to take a shortcut that denied him a chance to take it all in. But now he was back in Starfleet, and transporters are the order of the day.

“Thanks, Chief,” Canon acknowledged the transporter operator. “Are the other senior staff aboard?”

“Almost, sir,” came the reply. The transporter operator, a senior chief petty officer by rank, no doubt had as many years of service as did the Captain, if not more. “Just a few late arrivals. I can contact you when all are aboard?”

Canon nodded in acknowledgement as he exited the transporter room. The corridor was bustling with activity. Crews from the Cochrane and Starbase Omega hustled to and fro making final preparations for launch. The ship had undergone a major systems upgrade, had been assigned an almost entirely new crew, and would launch in just under 12 hours.

The Captain’s items had already been moved into his quarters. His interest now was a quick tour of the ship. He would start with engineering, move on to sickbay, then the armory and finally the Bridge.

“Captain!” a voice called from behind him.

Tag to… whoever called out!

Let’s get the crew all posted aboard, then we’ll have our mandatory senior staff meeting.
