SCENE Ready Room, USS COCHRANE

"No, no, Lieutenant, nothing like that," Canon replied, sensing the young officer's tenseness. "Just settle into the ship, your quarters, your department. This is a new experience for all of us. We'll ease our way into it."

Canon swiveled in his chair and turned his attention to the PADD on his desk, overlooking the specifications for the ship's armaments and shields. He was starting the third paragraph when he glanced over his shoulder to see Lt. (jg) Grissom still standing at attention before him.

"Was there... something else, Lieutenant?"

"No, sir!" Grissom answered.

The Captain smiled to himself. *Strict military background here, I see.* "You're dismissed, Lieutenant."

"Yes, sir! Thank you, sir!" Grissom pivoted on his heel and exited the Ready Room door in military stride.

Canon shook his head. *I wonder how long he would have stood there if I hadn't noticed him.*
