It was right there.
Darr'chuh was sitting with his back to the door looking out at the USS COCHRANE. In reality, Darr still thought of it as Nash's ship. The Mov thought back fondly over his time spent as a newbie on that ship. The whole command crew from those days had assumed an aura of perfection almost in his memory. The were the standard he compared himself to, truth be told.
And such outrageous adventures they had! Skipping back in time to Earth in pursuit of the Ismail. Chasing Morand through the COCHRANE itself. They almost hadn't seen anymore of the villian, but Nash had more decency and mercy ON Morand than Morand had ever had for anyone.
Darr had decided not to visit the COCHRANE, but now... he'd changed his mind.

When Darr'chuh materialized, he saluted COCHRANE's new captain. He'd only heard of Pol Canon before this. He was a bit curious about his old ship's new CO.

would be the best one to come, but... <shrug>

USS COCHRANE: Dead End
SD: 23.0211.2100
SCENE: Turbolift, Deck 2
TIME: shortly after "Element of Surprise"
=begin rpg=
Hemux felt unusually uneasy. The turbolift seemed smaller somehow. The Bolian felt alone and the emotion surprised him. Such a big ship with so many crewmates would normally bring feelings of crowding.
The turbolift doors opened. The hallway in deck two was empty. A chill covered the counselor.
Hemux walked briskly down the corridor to his quarters. He thought it best to stay there until the senior officer's briefing or at least until he heard something from security about his concerns.
The door swished open. Arn continued to feel cold, despite the unusually warm climate he maintained in his room.
*This doesn't feel right,* he considered.
The door closed. He turned on the primary lights and went into the restroom for brief moment. He thought maybe a good face wash might do him some good. A few minutes later, Hemux approached the food replicator.
"Hot cocoa, very rich."
A smooth, dark liquid with a pleasing aroma appeared. Taking the cup in hand, Arn slowly turned to face the entrance to the room. The cup and its hot contents flew from his hands as he saw someone in the entry way.

Brighton Bishop motioned once again for the waiter to bring him another glass of synthehol.
He spun his empty glass on the shiny table top where the civilian diplomatic adviser had sat alone for nearly two hours. This early middle aged, attractive, and usually cordial man remained alone by choice. He had several members of the COCHRANE crew come by and ask to join him, but Brighton was not in the mood.
Much to the once successful xenophobe relations specialist's dismay, the diplomatic corp of which he'd been a good standing member had disassociated themselves with Brighton after the "Tung Incident" the year before.
With his reputation shattered, Brighton found it nearly impossible to get assignments in the private sector, even in remote portions of the Federation. He was forced to rely on Starfleet for an assignment. Starfleet answered, but joining the USS COCHRANE in the Cocoon was far from the dream job he'd left behind.
Bishop also found another discomfort aboard the COCHRANE, that of the failure of synthehol to allow him to forget where he was and what he was doing. Still, few people on the ship had any idea of who he was or what had happened on Tung. At least he was getting a chance to start over. Comfort resided in that notion.
The waiter approached with another full glass. Brighton admitted that the drink was not as bad as some had made it out to be. The waiter attempted to strike up some conversation.
"I hear around the room that the ship is only a few hours away from pulling out of dock."
"Fantastic," Brighton said sarcastically and with even less enthusiasm.
"I take it you don't want to be here," said the waiter.
"Yea, you could say that. But then again, it's not like I am being forced to be here, if that's what you mean." Brighton took a swallow of the fresh beverage. "Nah, I suppose I'm just reaping what I sowed."

USS COCHRANE: Element of Surprise

SCENE: corridor
TIME: Continuing "The Commanding Officer Arrives"
=snip from Paul=
“Captain!” a voice called from behind him.
=end snip=
The Betazoid captain turned to see who had emphatically called to him from far down the corridor. Walking briskly toward him was a plump Bolian Lt.
"Ahh, Dr. Hemux. Good to see you again. I believe we met on DS101 a few years ago?"
Hemux caught up to his new CO, a little out of breath. "Yes, Sir. I do believe so. I am pleased you remember and even more pleased to be on this fine ship with you."
"You sounded anxious about something?"
"Mmmm, yes Captain, I suppose I did. I had an uncomfortable moment a few minutes ago... down in engineering. I thought I saw some one..."
"Someone dangerous." The CO's Betazed senses had no problems reading the Bolian's concern. "On the COCHRANE? And we are not even out of Star Base. Are you sure?"
"Well, no. And that's the problem. So far it's just a feeling, combined with a sketchy memory. I could be completely wrong."
Canon did not appear concerned, although Hemux believed it only be a cool exterior common among Captains.
"Just the same, when the new Chief Security officer arrives, run a report by him and make sure. I'm headed to engineering for a look around. I'll see you soon at the briefing, Counselor."
"Aye, Sir," Hemux said, nodding. He had a hunch this would be the start of a good working relationship with his new CO.
==Scene: CSO's office
==Time: after "At Ease"
"I see," said the young Grissom. I tell you what. I'll check the rosters on both OMEGA and our ship and see if anyone matches the description you gave. I'll also check with engineering to see if anything is suspicious. Either way, it's out of your hands now Counselor. Thanks for the report."
Hemux nodded and grinned, although he really didn't feel like it. He didn't feel safe, even after reporting his suspicions to both the CO and security chief. What's more, he couldn't even be sure the junior grade lieutenant would even follow up on this. Gus appeared interested, but how serious he would take the Bolian's suspicions was to be seen.

Canon swiveled in his chair and turned his attention to the PADD on his desk, overlooking the specifications for the ship's armaments and shields. He was starting the third paragraph when he glanced over his shoulder to see Lt. (jg) Grissom still standing at attention before him.
"Was there... something else, Lieutenant?"
"No, sir!" Grissom answered.
The Captain smiled to himself. *Strict military background here, I see.* "You're dismissed, Lieutenant."

* SD 23.0111.2004 (EST)
* Scene USS COCHRANE
Captain Pol Canon exhaled sharply as the rematerialization process concluded. *All still there,* he thought to himself. Since leaving Starfleet, he had made a point of avoiding transporters – not out of fear but for health reasons. Pol would walk where ever he could, and when not possible, he would take an open air transport. He had come to realize the inherent beauty of the universe and saw no reason to take a shortcut that denied him a chance to take it all in. But now he was back in Starfleet, and transporters are the order of the day.
“Thanks, Chief,” Canon acknowledged the transporter operator. “Are the other senior staff aboard?”
“Almost, sir,” came the reply. The transporter operator, a senior chief petty officer by rank, no doubt had as many years of service as did the Captain, if not more. “Just a few late arrivals. I can contact you when all are aboard?”
Canon nodded in acknowledgement as he exited the transporter room. The corridor was bustling with activity. Crews from the Cochrane and Starbase Omega hustled to and fro making final preparations for launch. The ship had undergone a major systems upgrade, had been assigned an almost entirely new crew, and would launch in just under 12 hours.
The Captain’s items had already been moved into his quarters. His interest now was a quick tour of the ship. He would start with engineering, move on to sickbay, then the armory and finally the Bridge.
“Captain!” a voice called from behind him.

USS COCHRANE: What here shall miss
==SD: 23.0110.1925 GMT-0600
==Scene: Transporter Room 1
==Time: one hour after Counsel for the Cochrane
==Begin RPG==
Dr. Arn Hemux rematerialized in a strange room. He had never been on a Pioneer class vessel before. In fact, every ship he'd been on was a small or medium sized vessel. While the style of the COCHRANE was similar to other modern ships, this ship had a flavor all its own.
Hemux gathered himself and slowly stepped off the pad toward the ensign operating the transporter. "Very good Ensign. Here in one piece. What a kind gesture!"
The poor transporter operator had no idea how to properly respond to the Bolian Lt. "Yes... sir," he replied, squinting.
Arn easily amused himself with the friendly jibe. He could easily see this as an example of most relationships he'd fostered in his time in Starfleet. Sometimes, those he came into contact with him would see Arn's optimistic, witty, and intellectual foreplay as a great thing to have on standby, whether in the direst of moments or in the most lighthearted and relaxed atmosphere. Others, of course, found the Bolian's personality annoying, unbecoming, and unnecessary.
Hemux figured the COCHRANE to be no different. Arn learned long ago to be himself. To be anything else, to interact under false pretenses, did more harm than good ultimately. Besides, to a Bolian, such behavior was unusual. Fine for a human to some extent and expected of a Ferengi, but the Counselor had to be himself.
"Thank you and keep up the fine work," Arn said with a smile as he gave the ensign a gentle pat on the shoulder. "My things have been transported to my quarters, correct?"
"Yes, Sir. Deck 2, room 109, I believe," the ensign said cautiously.
"Very good. Have a great day!"
"You too, sir."
==
Hemux made his way down the hall, whistling quietly as he went. He enjoyed life, a trait that previous captains found helpful at times, especially when they faced deadly opposition. On the other hand, Hemux proved a good counselor, advisor, and diplomat to these former CO's as well, and he hoped this would continue on the COCHRANE as well.
After a short turbolift ride, Arn quickly found his quarters. The room was large, but standard otherwise. The decor it seemed, was left up to the occupant. *Fine,* thought Hemux, *I am glad I brought a few objects from home.*
Hemux took a quick look around and unpacked a few essentials. Then he causally checked the computer logs to see if any updates had been made since he'd left Starbase Omega. There was only a couple of messages. One was a generic 'welcome to the USS Cochrane' and the other was much more important.
His current orders (and that of the other senior staff) was to come aboard, get settled, and be on standby for a call for a briefing when the CO was ready.
*Typical,* thought Hemux. *Hurry up and wait*
Never one to be bored, Hemux thought this would be a great opportunity to explore, meet, and greet. He checked himself in the mirror, not that he cared much about his looks, and proceeded to the exit.
Arn placed his hands behind his back and linked them together. He walked about the hallways, smiling and nodding at passersby. He observed how busy they appeared, all with intense looks on their faces, some with tools in their hands, and few with interest in talking. Clearly, the last minute tweaking of the COCHRANE was to be expected as it prepared to embark on a new voyage, with a new crew.
Hemux was unsure of where to proceed, so he let his instincts guide him. It didn't matter, really. His primary duties were not needed at this moment, and his usefulness in space dock was rather minuscule. He had few technical skills other than some medical training, and his secondary role as commanding officer advisor and diplomat was especially useless at the moment.
"Engineering," the Bolian told the turbolift.
==
Dr. Hemux appeared in the turbolift doorway. He glanced side to side as if he were not sure he would find himself in the middle of chaos or crossfire. Hemux was partly correct. Engineering was certainly busy. A few officers and enlisted shot him a quick glance, but no one paid much mind to the Bolian. After all, he was a Starfleet lieutenant by rank and senior officer, and few had any business questioning why he was there. Still, his blue topped uniform did seem unusual.
He walked about, carefully observing the crew's behavior. Eventually, he found that at least one of the junior officers were familiar with the ship's crew manifest and acknowledged Hemux.
"Counselor? May I help you sir?" said a junior grade lt. who was previously engaged in repairing a power coupling.
"No, no. Do not allow me to bother you, lt. Carry on, please. I will just be over here, minding my own..." Suddenly, Hemux stopped mid sentence. Something, no, someone, caught his eye. He wasn't sure what disturbed him so, but it was an uneasy feeling he hadn't experienced in quite some time.
Returning to the engineer, he thanked him for his time and excused himself. Arn backed away and strode near the wall on the opposite side of the room. He was trying hard not to appear conspicuous.
He waited patiently, staring at the back of a certain enlisted engineer. He could not be sure of this person's identity until he turned completely around. Arn did not have to wait long.
The Vulcan swiveled in his chair, apparently turning to make a calculation on the computer behind him. For a brief moment, the chief looked up at Hemux. It wasn't long, but it was enough to confirm the Bolian's suspicion.
The Vulcan did not recognize the Counselor of course; they had never met. But Arn was almost sure he'd seen this man before, in an image. But he did not remember the stranger being... Vulcan.
*Very strange,* thought Hemux. For the first time since he had arrived on the COCHRANE, Hemux' smile disappeared completely. Hemux knew he had seen this person before, but he had no idea why his presence was giving him such bad feelings. And where had he seen the man's image? Was it his imagination?
But the emotional attachment was too strong to ignore. Hemux walked away. He was nearly to the turbolift when he went back to the engineer he'd spoken to a few moments earlier.
"Excuse me, lt."
"Sir?"
"The Vulcan chief over there. What is his name?"
The engineer had a surprised look on his face. After some thought, he rose from his kneeling position and peered around the corner to see where Arn was directing him to. "I was not aware we had any Vulcans in engineering currently." He looked at the chief briefly, then turned back to the Bolian.
"Beats me, Counselor. I suppose he just beamed over with the last shift. We've had a lot of people come and go lately. No telling till things get settled who is part of the ship's crew and who is stationed here at OMEGA. Sorry sir."
Arn attempted a smile as a show of appreciation. "Thank you. I shall show myself out."

BIG TAG! Surely someone is willing to take this up. Could be anything at this point. I'm just making it up as I go along.
We are snowed in here, so I had time to burn to stay warm.

"Congratulations," Tergin said as he handed Ensign Grissom a box with a single hollow pip in it. "Good work in saving as many lives as you did. That type of work will take you far in the Cocoon Fleet. That is why you are being promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and assigned as Chief Security Officer to the USS COCHRANE."
"Thank you sir," Gus said as he took the pip and fixed it to his collar.
"The COCHRANE is due to leave spacedock in a few days. Take a shuttle or long range transporter aboard and report to your new CO, Captain Canon."
"Aye sir." Gus said. It was all so overwhelming.
"Congratulations Lt.<jg> Grissom," the Fleet Admiral said as he smiled and dismissed the new junior Lt.

The Bolian blushed blue. "Word about the station sir. Not easy to miss a Pioneer Class refit getting ready to come out of the GAIA yards."
"I see. Well Counselor, the COCHRANE will be staffed with Cocoon Fleet veterans... and as you know, life in the Cocoon can be hard and officer retention rates are well below the average in other Fleets. So, I'm counting on you to do you job," The Admiral smiled. "Dismissed."

"It's nice to see you in person Sir," Daniel said.
"Indeed. It seems like for a few weeks there all I was getting was casualty reports. I want to personally thank you for what you did back on the border. Some might say that type of service deserves a promotion..."
"Or warrants a change of career," Stuart said. "I'm assuming you got my transfer request."
"I did. I'm in dire need of Command officers Daniel. Command officers I can trust," the Admiral put a strange emphasis on the last word that made the Starfleet Commander had never heard the Fleet Admiral use. Daniel felt his hopes dashing. "However, I completely understand. I'm also in need of good officers, and if this is one way to keep you in Starfleet and not lose you to retirement then I'll make it happen."
A slight smile crept across Daniel's face. "Thank you sir."
"I can do you one better as well. You are assigned to the USS COCHRANE under command of... Captain Canon."
"Captain Pol Canon? I thought he retired," Daniel said surprised, he'd just been thinking of the man.
"The very same. He just returned to the Cocoon earlier this week," Tergin said with a smile. "So how does that suit you DOCTOR?"
"Very well sir. Thank you."
"One last question before I release you to go report to your new yet not new CO," the El-Aurian smiled. "Do you plan to keep up with your Command certifications as CMO? "... Captain Canon, Welcome back to the Cocoon," Tergin said, as he motioned the man to the couches in the center of his office.
"Thank you Admiral, its been a long time."
"Too long, good to see you again too Pol," Tergin said.
"You too Tergin. I must say, I'm quite interested about the billet, as Starfleet Command was quite cryptic."
"As they tend to be about all things Cocoon these days I'm afraid..."
Tergin noticed the inquisitive look on the Betazoid Captain's face. The El-Aurian tried to deflect with his signature smile and shaking his head. "Politics," he said, pulling a padd off the stack on the edge of the desk. "The commission is the USS COCHRANE fresh out of spacedock and refit... a PIONEER II class ship."
Pol was tempted to ask why he'd been asked for specifically, why he'd been brought out of retirement. His Betazoid senses tingled, the El-Aurian mind was impressive indeed. He got the feeling that it was linked to the 'politics' the admiral had spoken of early...
The Listener caught Pol's eye, and knew what the man was wondering. It was true, he had requested him specifically, particularly because he'd retired outside the Cocoon. He could not let him know that though, not yet. The Captain quickly returned his attention to the padd the Admiral was offering him.
"Your crew will be for the most part experienced hands of the Cocoon... Your FO and Chief Science Officer will be arriving from the USS DEMORA SULU shortly. Your CEO was formerly the CEO of the COCHRANE, and I'm sure you'll know your CMO, Commander Stuart..."
"Daniel Stuart?..."
"The very same."
"Last I heard he was captaining the YORKTOWN, what happened...?"
"Things change... as I'm sure you are aware" the Admiral said in his soft voice and smile. "Your Counselor is Lt. Hemux, and your FCO is still to be determined. Their biofiles are in here. You'll get getting the full crew roster shortly."
"And... dare I ask about the ambassador I rode in with?"
"Ambassador Grayson?" Tergin's smile turned into a broad smirk. "To be Determined..." before Captain Canon could ask for clarification the Admiral pushed on. "I'm sure your eager to get aboard, you can take long range transporter or shuttle over to the Gaia Fleet Yards. You should be ready to launch in two days if the reports from my engineers are correct."
The new Commanding Officer of the USS COCHRANE rose as the Admiral rose. "Thank you sir."
"Thank you captain. The Fleet and I am happy to have you back..."
Tergin began walking the man to the office door. "One more thing. The COCHRANE is to the new Flagship of the Cocoon Fleet. So, I guess double congratulations are in order Captain. As such you can expect to enjoy regular contact with my office. Also, expect orders to come shortly from the office of the Fleet Executive Officer." They were at the door before Pol could ask any questions, and he knew when he was being politely excused.
"Thank you Admiral," was all he had time for, he saw several faces in the anteroom and wondered if some of them were his new Senior staff.

USS COCHRANE: Stepping Into the Frying Pan

Ma’kauran braced her hand against the wall allowing a momentary reprieve from stiffness of her movements. It hurt more than she would ever let on, but then again the cane that she was supposed to be relying upon was back in her quarters. Having to relearn how to walk, does that to you. Not that she used the stupid piece of equipment. She had been cleared for light duty, which for a Marine basically meant desk duty. And it ranked just below being discharged on the meter of things that sucked.
At least she wouldn’t be left behind.
Senior officers from around the fleet were being recalled to SB Omega to take part in a sort of senior leadership war games. The USS COCHRANE had been refit and would serve the central role in the planned war games. Some were arriving via D-Warp shuttle, while others came with their entire ship. The SOJOURNER-TRUTH, the HORIZON, the KATANA, and the ZAHAL were a few of the ship currently in orbit of Demeter. Several others were due in shortly.
She wasn’t sure if the rumors were true, but then again she didn’t speak much to those around here, unless she had to. The once stoic Marine, hadn’t made many friends while on OMEGA since the medical staff had successfully revived her from the comatose state she had spent the previous seven months in due to an unknown illness which inflicted her on COCOON 2.
Anyway, skuttlebutt in the Residential Dome had it that the finest minds in the fleet were to be assigned to the USS COCHRANE, and to two other – names yet to be uncovered – ships to serve at the center of these so called War Games. The COCHRANE was the obvious choice as it had been just refit, and the skeleton crew who escorted the ship to OMEGA from the Gaia shipyard couldn’t seem to keep their mouths shut.
Three against the whole fleet didn’t seem like fair odds, but it they had the best and the brightest, who knows what could happen.
Or not happen.
Too many chiefs and no Indians. It was a real concern.
Could all these outgoing, decorated, and somewhat stubborn command personnel come together to outwit the greater assets? Admiral Tergin had let it slips several weeks ago that the results of this War Game would greatly influence the direction the Cocoon Fleet would take.
Not a small weight to be placed on so many officers.
And would she get to play a part?
No. The Marine command didn’t want to let her off of the disable lists, religating her to almost certain desk duty. It didn’t matter that her rehab had progressed faster than any had expected. The fact that it progressed at all was astounding. And more than likely it had to do with her own internal healing factor, that and the biomedical implant that had kept her alive when Starfleet Medical couldn’t do anything.
Tergin had fought for her, ensuring that she could at least serve in a technical advisory role. It was better than nothing. As seeing as she would have to continue the rehab that she had come to despise, Maka was currently on her way to check in with whoever had been assigned CMO on this hunk of junk.
Ok. So the COCHRANE would never be junk. She just wanted to have more of a role then she was fated to have. That was her old self fighting to come out, even though she had pretty much shut herself out while relearning to walk and to talk. Her speech was only mildly choppy, but her gait was noticeably awkward and unsteady. Hence the cane. And with the combat Marine trying to fight her way out of a corner, the cane permanently disappeared. She would have nothing to do with it. And screw whoever wanted to make her rely on it.
Taking a final breath, she made the rest of her way to the COCHRANE’s Medical bay. She could check in and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible. If the doc wanted any info, he or she could get it from her record. She was done explaining. Given her ability to heal, five more months or so, and she just might get cleared for full duty.
And until then, there was no reason promoting to others just how weak, she was.
A cripple.
Ma’kauran punched the nearest hatch at that thought. It wouldn’t do to think like that.
She would be strong again. She was strong.
Striding through the Medbay doors with as much confidence and power as she could manage, but she was not prepared for what awaited her.
Or whom.

USS COCHRANE: Pure Thought!
***SD 22.1230 1530***
***Scene: SB OMEGA Fleet Admiral Tergin's Office***
Josh had gotten to Tergin's ante room, an looked around there was only one other officer waiting. He was still pondering in his mind what the Fleet CO wanted him back on base for, but kept coming up short on any viable reason.
"Cmdr Ryan, the Admiral is ready to see you now." the yeoman said gesturing Josh to the door.
Joshua stood upright and lifted his duffle bag, he straightened his uniform up and stopped, *Had they found Kieren?* the engineer stopped dead in his tracks and looked up to the ante room's ceiling. His older brother had been missing for nearly six years now on the USS TRESSPASS.
"Cmdr the Admiral is ready!" the yeoman called out again, this time with a little more agitation in the voice.
Josh snapped back and again headed to the door.

***An hour later***
***Scene: SB OMEGA, transporter room 6***
Ryan handed the padd to the Andorian chief petty officer who in turn looked down and then handed it back to the engineer. Joshua walked slowly to the platform and turned to the chief, he nodded.
"Energizing" he heard as the annular confinement beam started to form around him..
***Scene: Tranporter room 2***
As the beam started to diffuse Josh was already starting to step off the transporter pad.
"Welcome to the USS COC......" the petty officer didn't get very far in her welcome when Josh had held up his hand and walked straight out of the doors...
He couldn't believe it. He'd never thought he see the ship that had been his first senior posting since joining the Cocoon Fleet, except that it had been in the Gaia yards while he'd been at the Propulsion Labs. He'd always wondered why, and thought *So this is why they wanted the damn MFR's new settings and ..* he stopped dead in his tracks..
[Commander Ryan] came over the comm.
-=BEEP=-
"Ryan here!" he said after tapping his comm badge,
[Commander, you are to report to main engineering as soon as possible]
"On my way, Ryan out!" he said turning right and heading along the corridor towards turbolift 6
-=SWOOSH=-
"Main engineering" he said feeling the inertial dampeners kick in as the lift dropped to deck 12.
-=SWOOSH=-
he stepped out from the lift and turned right to be faced by both of the massive heavy duty duranium doors.
-=SWOOSH=-
"JOSH!" he heard bellowing out as the doors closed fast and hard behind him.
He looked around and saw a young Bajoran female in the updated bio-mechanical engineering coveralls that had been introduced while he'd been at Gaia. "Kara" he fired back, dropping the duffle bag and ran to her, he flung his arms around her.
She pulled back slightly and looked into his eye's "Welcome home Josh!"
Lt(jg) Harl Kara had been Joshua's warp specialist during his first tour onboard the Pioneer class, USS COCHRANE. The pair had started out on a work basis, but their mutual love for the warp thoeries, and the problems that those theories could throw at them turned into a more than friendly relationship. But just as it was beginning to take off Kara was reposted to the USS ARTEMIS.
"Kara, is there any word on who has got the command yet?" one engineer said to another.
"There is, " she hesitated, "It's Captain Pol Cannon"
"Cannon?" Ryan replied, gesturing for his companion to tell him more.
"Look, Joshua we need to start and overlay the new matrices onto the core command modules." she diverted the question as she new he wouldn't pass up some work.
"Show m..." he was halted in mid-sentence by the fact that she'd handed him the schematics to his TOP SECRET PROJECT!
"WHAT THE?"
"Your project was simultaneaously being fitted to the COCHRANE while we were in Gaia."
"AND YOU?"
"I'm your Assistant Chief Engineer, we need to get this mapped onto the modules before we can even start any more core loads." she fired back.
Josh stepped back from her, looking down at the padd and then back at her.......

SB OMEGA: Cochrane the Phoenix
SD: 22.1228
Scene: SB OMEGA - Fleet Adirmal's Office
The El-Aurian Fleet Admiral read over the latest report from his head of the Cocoon Fleet Engineering Corps, Cmdr. Bel Shaane. The refit of the USS COCHRANE was on schedule, and the Fleet Admiral intended to launch the PIONEER-II class Starship with a seasoned crew, veterans of the Cocoon. The fleet had nearly lost the COCHRANE to the battle of Paran-Zee early in the Telmarc conflict. It was nearly a two years later that the ship had been able to be refit, and the Fleet Admiral Tergin intended to launch it as the new Flagship of the Cocoon Fleet.
The Cocoon was changing, the Fleet Admiral had finally come to accept that when he uncovered Starfleet Intelligence's operations, and the extent to which they were holding the Telmarc forces at bay. Much of what was done would not have even been sanctioned by Starfleet Command proper. It was all he could do to keep his position and those of his senior staff when he objected. However it seemed, Starfleet Command had no one else to send.
With the realization that Starfleet and the Federation member planets would no longer hold the dominate position in the Cocoon, the Listener had begun making plans months ago, to re-configure his fleet, his assets and their priorities to something that was more manageable, and defendable... and this was the beginning, rebuilding the home fleet.
[Sir, your first appointment is here], his assistant's voice came over the office comm.
"Very well, just a moment."
He also had the more un-pleasant task of recalling for refit the USS HORIZON, flag ship of the Cocoon for nearly a decade. He knew the ship's mystic commander would let him know her displeasure. He opened his viewer and began recording the message.
NRPG:
So, the mystery of which ship is solved. I'll be assigning folks shortly.
